The Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) Initiative provides funding up to Rs. 1,50,000/- to Families below the poverty line and families with a monthly income of less than Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) for general and specialist treatment of life-threatening diseases, and injuries caused by natural and artificial disasters, such as industrial/farm/road/rail accidents, bomb blasts, and so on. Heart Conditions and Cardiac Surgery, Cancer, Kidney and Urinary Diseases, Orthopedic, Thalassemia, Bone Marrow Transplant, AIDS, and Chronic Mental Illness with Surgical Treatment are only a few of the life-threatening diseases. A panel appointed by the Government of Assam selects the beneficiaries. The Indian government contributes half of the funds approved by the State Government under the Assam Arogya Nidhi.
