Signs and symptoms of Penile Cancer

Summary

The various signs and symptoms associated with penile cancer include sores or other skin changes, discharge, and also bleeding in the penis.

Introduction

Penile cancer is a rare cancer type that develops in the penis, in other words, the male genitals, which allow semen and urine to pass through the body. In fact, the most common type of cancer of the penis is squamous cell carcinoma (cancer that begins in the squamous cells of the top layer of the skin). It usually forms above or below the foreskin (the loose skin that covers the head of the penis). Here are some signs and symptoms of penile cancer.

Signs and symptoms of penile cancer can include:

  • Sores (cysts) or growth in the penis (glans), the shaft or the foreskin
  • raised or thickened area
  • Skin discolouration such as redness, white patches or spots that look blue, brown, or black
  • Bleeding or discharge
  • Lump, pain, or discharge under the foreskin, which only appears when the foreskin is retracted.

These symptoms can also occur in other circumstances. However, if a patient experiences any of these symptoms or other changes, then the patient should consult a doctor immediately. Treatment of penile cancer becomes easier if it is detected early?1,2?.
