Dr Elphiston Fernandes completed his Medical Training (4 ½ years + 1 year compulsory rotating internship) from Goa Medical College. He had a meritorious academic record passing all the exams in first attempt and was awarded distinction in Microbiology and Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. He completed his junior residency in Surgery (Including trauma and Neurosurgery) from Sept 2002 to September 2006 and cleared his M. S general Surgery exams in first attempt in Nov 2005. He then worked as senior resident for a period of 10 months till Sept 2006. He worked as an associate consultant in the department of minimally invasive surgery, Laparoscopy & Endoscopy. He was in charge of the Endoscopy unit with a total endoscopy turnover of 40 cases / day. He learned the precise art of basic and advanced Laparoscopic surgeries. In July 2007, He joined as DNB Trainee in department of Urology at Apollo hospitals, Chennai. The urology department is a tertiary care centre performing variety of Endourological, Laparoscopic & Open surgeries. It has to its credit a structured and voluminous Living donor and Cadaveric transplant program. He has received good surgical exposure in all the Endourological & Open procedures. He passed the D. N. B Urology examinations in the first attempt. He has done a clinical fellowship in reconstructive urology at Kulkarni's endosurgical institute with Dr Sanjay Kulkarni. Dr Sanjay is a pioneer in urethral surgeries and performs more than 300 urethral reconstructions within and outside the country. It is an apex referral institute performing urethral reconstructive procedure. He got good exposure in Buccal mucosal urethroplasties, Anastamoticurethroplasties in pelvic fracture patients, and Kulkarni's urethrplasty technique for pan urethral strictures.
