The facility has the most advanced radio diagnostic and radiation equipment, including a state-of-the-art linear accelerator, irradiation, stereotactic radiotherapy, and intensity-modulated radiotherapy machines. It runs preventive oncology programmes to raise cancer awareness among the general public, screening programmes to detect cancer early and provide financial help. So far, almost 10,000 persons have been screened. A stereotactic breast biopsy is now possible thanks to its vacuum aided advanced mammography device, the first of its type in India. With the use of a transrectal sextant biopsy, prostate cancer can be detected at an early stage. The treatment of liver cancer with radiofrequency ablation has also begun. Medical oncology has developed procedures like FISH and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to predict cancer patients. IRCH has been a full member of the UICC since 1987.
