Sharana breast cancer relief & research foundation is a non-profitable, charitable, non-governmental organization, which aims to assist women during this very difficult phase of life when faced with the diagnosis of breast cancer. We are totally dedicated to breast cancer research and treatment in Chennai with a reputation for excellence and state of art technology. Our goal is very simple – “It is life anyone who suffers from potentially curable breast cancer, and is economically disadvantaged is a beneficiary”. What we see happening every year thousands of women are touched by breast cancer. It not only impact on individuals diagnosed with the disease, but also their families, friends as well. Timely, appropriate medical consultation and counselling is a luxury many women do not have and the situation is much worse when somebody is disadvantaged because of lower socio economic and educational status. What we believe "we believe that every woman deserves a right to quality breast cancer treatment that can save her life. Surviving breast cancer should not depend on who you are and how much money you have." Our activities: Sharana focuses on patients who are affected by breast cancer and cannot afford their medication. It provides direct services to people battling breast cancer through direct assistance, enlisting other charitable trusts for financial aid and compassionate support. Sharana is a space - to sit quietly with a cup of tea and a book to get the fears and doubts alleviated through videos and by talking to the counsellors to enquire and find more about breast cancer without inhibition to get practical advice and emotional support to gain courage and face challenges to fund treatment costs patient assistance over 100 patients have been assisted so far with surgery and additional treatments through Sharana trust. Research has shown that support groups help reduce the three most significant stress associated with cancer: Unwanted aloneness, loss of control, and loss of hope. At Sharana we have three different support group meetings: small group meetings every fortnight: focuses on topics like lymphedema management precautions and cautions after surgery and treatment large group meetings on the second Saturday every month(2:15 pm to 4:15pm): talks and dispelling of doubts by Dr. Selvi Radhakrishna other resource persons Engel utsav: an annual event panel discussions sharing’s contests & games fun and frolic pathology facility & bio-repository the incidence of breast cancer in women is expected to rise to 35 per 100000 women in 2026 says health ministry. The current research has become challenging in India because most of the knowledge come from studies in western population. So, it raises research questions whether findings based on western population apply to Indian women. A dedicated breast cancer pathology facility and bio banking facility to store fresh frozen, FFPE blocks are being planned to facilitate optimal treatment and research. This project could play a fundamental role in addressing this unmet medical necessity on research side and help us towards our vision of a future free of breast cancer. Prosthesis Sharana provides the patients with knitted cotton prosthesis free of cost immediately after the surgery. This helps the patients to cross the major hurdle of physical awkwardness and deal with the loss with ease and less anxiety. Counselling talking to someone may be the first step in helping one cope with the uncertainties ahead. We have committed group of counsellors to- provide information and education about the surgery alleviate the fears of the treatments give tips on how to cope with treatment focus on emotional support for the patients and the care givers
