मई 2017 में अचानक मेरे जीजा जी को एसिडिटी होने लगी। हमने इसे गंभीरता से नहीं लिया. लेकिन जून के मध्य से उन्हें गंभीर पीठ दर्द होने लगा। उसकी भूख भी खत्म हो गई। उस वक्त वह घर से काम कर रहे थे. इसलिए हमने सोचा कि स्वास्थ्य समस्याएं उनकी गतिहीन जीवनशैली के कारण हो सकती हैं। वे सामान्य गैस्ट्राइटिस के लक्षणों की तरह दिखते थे। लेकिन जब लक्षण बढ़ गए तो वह चेक-अप कराने के लिए अस्पताल गए लेकिन टेस्ट के नतीजे ठीक आए। यूएसजी रिपोर्ट भी साफ़ आई उन्होंने कुछ निर्धारित दवाएं लीं और ठीक हो गए। इसलिए, हम बिल्कुल भी चिंतित नहीं थे।

आगामी मुद्दे:

लेकिन बात यहीं ख़त्म नहीं हुई. फिर से उनकी पीठ का दर्द बढ़ने लगा. जुलाई के अंत तक उनकी हालत काफी खराब हो गई. हम उस समय बहुत चिंतित थे. 5 या 8 अगस्त को उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया था. सभी जांच परिणाम साफ-सुथरे आए। लेकिन इस बार हम रुके नहीं. वह बायोप्सी, लैप्रोस्कोपी और से गुज़रे एंडोस्कोपी और परिणामों में कैंसर का कोई संकेत नहीं था।

डॉक्टर भी उसके लक्षणों का कारण खोजने में असमर्थ थे। लेकिन उन्होंने कहा कि यह उन्हें गंभीर लग रहा है। इससे हम डर गए लेकिन बिना किसी संकेत के हम क्या कर सकते थे। इमेजिंग तकनीक और सोनोग्राफी भी लागू की गई और उन परिणामों में भी कैंसर का संकेत नहीं मिला।

प्रश्नपत्र:

हम चिंतित थे क्योंकि स्थानीय प्रयोगशाला के परिणामों ने कैंसर का संकेत दिया था लेकिन मुंबई की प्रसिद्ध प्रयोगशालाओं में से एक ने कैंसर के कोई लक्षण नहीं होने का संकेत दिया। हालांकि हम भ्रमित थे, एक प्रसिद्ध पैथोलॉजी सेंटर के लैब परिणाम ने हमें सुकून दिया। इस बीच, मैं खुद लक्षणों के बारे में शोध कर रहा था और एसआरसीसी या सिग्नेट रिंग सेल कार्सिनोमा के बारे में पाया, जो अत्यधिक घातक एडेनोकार्सिनोमा का एक दुर्लभ रूप है।

मुझे यह भी पता चला कि इसका पता लगाने के लिए उन्नत तकनीकों की आवश्यकता है और भारत में इन तकनीकों की उपलब्धता बहुत कम है।

Anyhow, all these procedures were going on until the 26th of August, and he was discharged on that day. Later on, due to the severity of his health condition, on the 16th of September, he went through another round of tests, and again the results didn't indicate cancer. But we were so scared this time, we went to another doctor on the 18th of September, one of the famous doctors in Lower Parel, Mumbai.

उसे देखने और रिपोर्ट पर एक नजर डालने के बाद ही डॉक्टर ने हमें बताया कि यह चौथी स्टेज है अग्नाशय का कैंसर. हमने पिछले अस्पताल के डॉक्टरों से सलाह ली और कैंसर का इलाज वहीं शुरू करने का फैसला किया। 25 सितंबर से उनकी कीमोथेरेपी शुरू होने वाली थी, लेकिन 23 सितंबर को उन्हें सांस लेने में दिक्कत होने लगी। डॉक्टरों ने 24 सितंबर से कीमोथेरेपी शुरू करने का फैसला किया. लेकिन 24 तारीख की सुबह, वह अचानक बेहोश हो गए और उन्हें आईसीयू में ले जाया गया। 25 सितंबर के बाद उनकी हालत बिगड़ गई.

मेटास्टेसिस:

All the organs started to fail. The kidney stopped functioning as the creatinine level was very high. He was on life support, and continuous dialysis was ongoing. Doctors told us he may survive for a couple of hours to a couple of days only. We knew the seriousness of his health condition. But who can bear this kind of situation? After some time, he went into a coma. Unfortunately, doctors told us there was no point in keeping him on a ventilator. We decided to remove the life support on October 1st. On October 2nd, at 1:20 am, he passed away.

अपरिवर्तनीय नुकसान:

It took a lot of time to recover from that loss. We were so angry that due to a lack of proper diagnosis, my brother-in-law's condition worsened, and he died. We consulted so many doctors multiple times. We lost all hope for oncologists in our country. When former Chief Minister of Goa, Mr. Manohar Parrikar, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, we hoped he would recover. It would be a ray of hope for people suffering from this. But he died too.

So, that is why I would suggest everyone go through multiple tests when facing this level of severity. Seek consultation from multiple doctors. That can only help you. Don't neglect the symptoms until you are very sure. It has changed my life significantly. I started to read about cancers, the symptoms, and available treatments. I also began researching alternative therapies for cancer treatment. Now, I am preparing for the management entrance examination, and I aim to join the top colleges in our country, which can help me make a further contribution towards cancer patients.
