Executive Summary
Childhood Brainstem Glioma is the second most common cancer in childhood after leukemia, affecting almost 27% of children and adolescents. Approximately 75% of childhood brain stem gliomas are in the pons. The 5-year survival rate for brain stem glioma children varies depending on the tumor location and other factors. Approximately 3 in 4 children with all types of brain tumors combined survive at least 5-years after diagnosis.
Statistics of Brainstem Glioma- Childhood
Based on Statistics of Brainstem Glioma after leukemia, CNS tumors (Central Nervous System tumor) are the second most common childhood cancer, accounting for about 27% of cancers in children and adolescents younger than 15. Almost 11% of all childhood CNS tumors are brain stem gliomas 1.


Around 75% of childhood brain stem gliomas are in the pons.
